Hi.

This is an odd question. I'm having problems with my signature in Outlook 2003. When I compose an email, it looks fine (the spacing is fine, the colors there, etc.). However, sometimes when I respond to an email from someone else and insert my signature, the colors disappear and the lines are double spaced. I recognize that this happens when the messages I am responding to were sent to me as "plain text" messages and not html messages. But I'm wondering if there's any way to create a signature that will view well in both environments?

Here's an example of what happens...

[Me composing email or responding to email that was sent to me as HTML:]

My name
My address
My phone

[Me responding to email sent to me as plain text:]

My name

My address

My phone

(The spacing is off.)

I currently have my Outlook set to compose messages in HTML.

Thanks for any help y'all can give me!

Best,
Sandra

Check up the settings for writing mails Nov 15, 2005

Hi Sandra,

Maybe you could have a look into the settings for writing mails, no matter if you're replying to a mail (which you have received as plain text) or writing a new mail (of course in HTML).

Isn't there a function enabling you to always have the mail in HTML format, no matter if replying or starting anew? This should give you the correct signature (spacings, colours etc,) every time.

Unfortunately I use Outlook Express 6, so I can't say for sure how/where to change these settings, but I'm quite sure it would be possible.

Good luck!
Erik

I think I do have it that way... Nov 15, 2005

Hi.

There's a section under Options - Mail Format that reads "Choose a format for outgoing mail and change advanced settings. Compose in this message format:" and then there's a drop-down list. I have HTML selected there already. There are also two options: Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit email messages (unchecked) and User Microsoft Office Word 2003 to read Rich Text email messages (unchecked).

Those are the only options I find. Maybe someone else knows where to find a way to fix this?

Thanks!
Sandra

Manual line breaks? Nov 15, 2005

One solution could be to create a signature in a Word document and to use manual line breaks (Shift+Enter) instead of paragraph marks (Enter). I guess this will degrade nicely in plain text e-mails.

Just cut and paste this signature in the signature editor of Outlook.

Regards,
Gerard
