Hi linguists!

First of all, I must tell that I am glad to be able to read (and copy-and-paste, and write if possible) almost every possible alphabet / writing system on earth - in several ProZ.com features, not least in KudoZ and forums. Great!

But... so far I haven't EVER seen any phonetics over here!
And this is no small point! Whe should be able to type (or at least, copy-and-paste) the IPA writing.

Here an excerpt from a small article on Wikipedia, showing the phonetic notation of four English words - look how they look like here!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pronunciation_respelling_for_English#International_Phonetic_Alphabet
rid rid rɪd rɪd
reed ri:d rid ri:d
cod kɔd kɒd kɒd
cord kɔ:d kɔd kɔ:d

Any solutions? Welcome!

Perhaps I am missing something in my PC Jun 11, 2007

Hi William,

Thanks for answering.
Well, for three of the words I see a small square where you maybe see something similar to an i , an o and an a...
If that's the case, perhaps I am missing the installation of some necessary software feature - or you have got a super-PC!

I see that you live in Norway - greet me the Trondheimsfjord! I was there 13 years ago when I was about to graduate from University (my God!) It must be very sunny there right now.

Regards from (cold and foggy) Montevideo,
Fabio

It will almost certainly mean that you do not have a font installed with these characters or your browser is not accessing them. Can you see/type these characters in other applications?

For a list of fonts with ɒ, iopena, open back rounded vowel, Unicode 0252 (and doubtless the open "o" and many others besides) see:

www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0252/fontsupport.html

To install fonts on Windows see:
