The Greek Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture, the Ca’ Foscari
University of Venice, the Fondazione di Venezia, and the Venice-based
association Italia-Grecia, are pleased to announce the second annual
competition for a Prize in memory of Professor Nikolaos M. Panagiotakes,
former Director of the Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies
in Venice.

Eligibility is restricted to researchers under the age of 40. The Prize
will be awarded by a special committee, for an unpublished study, not
exceeding 100 pages (A4), on a subject related to the interests of
Professor Panagiotakes (Byzantine and vernacular Greek literature; history;
the literature and culture of Crete under Venetian rule; Greek scholars
of the Diaspora; Venice and the Greeks).

The study, in Greek, Italian, English or French, must be original and
must not be part of a doctoral thesis or any other work submitted for a
university degree (such as a postgraduate diploma, Master’s, Tesi di
Laurea etc.).

The value of the prize will be 2,500 euros.

Submissions for the prize must be sent, by 31 March 2005, to the
following address: Prof. Caterina Carpinato, Dipartimento di Scienze dell’
Antichitΰ e del Vicino Oriente, Universitΰ Ca’ Foscari, San
Sebastiano, Dorsoduro 1686, 30123 Venice, Italy.

The award ceremony will take place in Yannina in October 2005, during
the 6th International Conference “Neograeca Medii Aevi”.
