a bug in Google? Hits for text NOT containing the searched string ...

Hi, everybody,
In the past few days, I've noticed something very odd with Google (I'm using Google Chrome to do my searches).
I type in a phrase, and I get say, 1 million hits, but when I look them, one or two (or in one case, 14) contain the string I used to search, and NONE of the rest of the hits contain it.
For example, I just searched on (in quotations) "peer into the actions of". The returned page says there are 290,000 hits. The first two contain that string, but none of the others do (even when I go to the pages that follow).
This has happened several times. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks!!
Patricia

i.e. the practice to attract traffic at any cost, using semi-cheating ways ...
for example, filling websites with tons of non relevant keywords, instead of filling them with useful contents
usually Google bans these websites, but there is an undying struggle between good and evil ...

most are non-commercial sites

Hi, Claudio,
It's a possibility, but most of the hits are for non-commercial sites.
In any case, isn't the point of embedding extraneous words in commercial sites to get traffic from a search that contains those (extraneous) words? In my case, the string I searched does not appear in the documents or sites that are "hits."
Thanks,
Patricia

a bad search methode may be? I did the same search in quotations myself just now with google.es and I only got 3 results, this thread included... Try with a + sign before the quote like this: +"peer into the actions of". Maybe it helps.

Thank you for the link. I see it goes to a page where the hits are only to the string. However, when I added a plus sign before the quotation mark, it made no difference in what was returned. Are you using Chrome or Firefox?
I've never had to use a plus sign before, and I've been doing Google searches for years.
Or am I not understanding your instructions?
Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Firefox. Sometimes, even a text is quoted it find texts were words are in the text, but separated.
Theoretically a + sign tells Google to do an "exact search". Maybe you should try with simple quotes too. If it does not work, I can not help further.

I am sorry: maybe indeed a bug... I tried your raw link with IE and Firexfox and did some more searchings suppressing information from your raw link to simplify it, but no way. The only thing that occurs to me is that you clean the browser cache memory (cookies, history, etc) and reinitate the machine, but I do not believe this will be useful
As a meantime solution you may add my raw link to favorites and write what you are looking for between the quotes, but of course this is a monkey solution... of quite doubtful utility.

Lutz,
I'm sorry you've been experiencing this, too, but I'm glad I'm not the only one! I guess I should try to report it to Google...
Thank you,
Patricia
