Hi all,

I bought 10 euros of SkypeOut credit and the Skype company also charged a 15% VAT in the invoice.

As I'm based in Italy and their headquaters are based in Luxembourg (as stated in the invoice) I shouldn't be charged of Luxembourg VAT, should I?

We all know you don't charge VAT when selling something to a UE country.

I asked for a refund and they replied only non UE countries are VAT exempt...

I really don't understand.

Skype Groups Jan 27, 2006

Hi Francesca,
I had the same problem - the workaround is to use a Skype Group. Have a look at this FAQ entry:

I am a business in the EU and I don't want to pay the VAT
At the moment, our service is aimed at consumers, and we don't offer VAT exemptions for businesses.

If you use Skype for business and would like to register your EU VAT code we suggest you sign up for Skype Groups where you can enter you VAT code and be exempt from paying VAT.

HTH, Ralf

Thanks a lot Ralf.

I registered a skype group! Hope they're not going to charge VAT anymore.
