Google analytics has a geolocation feature May 9, 2007

If you are not necessarily interested in showing your site visitors/competitors how many other people have visited your site, you might alternatively/additionally want to set up a Google Analytics account and paste a bit of their code into your index page (and any other ones you want to monitor click-through events on).

It will give you quite good geo-location statistics, i.e. where in the world people are visting you from (good if you are in the business of trans-national web work). It will give you some key word information that will help you refine your site's search engine optimisation, plus if you have clearly defined 'conversion' objectives and you code tag the page pathways, it will also tell you how your visitors are interacting with your site, and how well you are doing in getting visitors to certain key pages.

If it is a case that you need a visible statistics counter to reassure someone (visitors, 'boss' or yourself), there are other additional ways that this can be effectively achieved, depending on who you wish to reassure.
