Interpreter’s Conference in Buenos Aires “INTERPRETA 2007” Will Gather Top Interpreters for a Two-Day Conference

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – September 2006 /INTERPRETA 2007/ -- lucillebarnes.com, Aleph Translations and spanish-interpreter.biz are organizing the first ever interpreters-only event in Argentina, and probably Latin America. The event will take place on July 28 and 29, 2007, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

INTERPRETA 2007 is focused on interpreters and their profession. The organizers estimate that out of the expected 150 - 170 participants present at the meeting, the interpreter to translators/related language professionals and researchers ratio will be of 3:1. INTERPRETA 2007 aims to promote interpreters profession and understanding of their work, to increase networking, and to provide visibility to the “quiet” but crucial role they play in many scenarios.

Some speakers who confirmed their participation are Sergio Viaggio, ex United Nations Vienna, writer and researcher; Anne Martin, Universidad de Granada, Spain; Atenea Acevedo, interpreter and activist, Mexico; Barry Slaughter Olsen, TAALS, American University, USA; Rut Simcovich, interpreter, Argentina; Claudia Angelelli, San Diego State University, USA; and Fernando Valenzuela, interpreter, Spain. Other speakers who have not confirmed yet are Ana de Choch Asseo; Marguerite Groves, OAS; Lidia Wassertheil; Estela Herrera; Holly Mikkelson and Ana María Velasco, Monterrey Institute of International Studies, USA; among others.

“We expect to have over 10 countries represented through attendees. It will be a great encounter to discuss and learn more about our role as linguistic mediators," said José L. Villanueva-Senchuk, INTERPRETA 2007 President. “It is the first time in Argentina, and I dare to say in Latin America, that an event of this kind is to be held. It will serve all attendees to network and share experiences and come up with resolutions that will foster our profession. Seasoned and junior interpreters, interpreters-to-be and anyone interested in becoming more acquainted with our profession are welcome at the event.” added Villanueva-Senchuk.
