True what you say about Irish Gaelic. Only TWO of our MEPs are sufficiently proficient in Gaelic to speak it at a high level; the rest of the Irish MEPs only have a few words from school. (a similar situation with the rest of Ireland's population)

However, this year has really kicked off for me as I have a rare language pair (Irish Gaelic - English) that is in hot demand. You wouldn't catch me in Brussels though. I think I would scream from the sheer boredom of translating reams and reams of text that I know nobody is ever going to read.

You have some important languages there, Sabra. Why not concentrate on them and specialise in a particular field. Once you finish college, you could work in this field for a while, learn as much as you can and then return to translation when you feel you're ready. Specialisation is the key, not how many languages you know.
