I am translating a website and the content makes continuous references to Neolithic and Paleolithic period, the stone age, etc. tools man was using at the time and animals living at that time.

Can anyone suggest an online dictionary or any online glossaries where to find most of these topics? I am kind of stumped. The translation is from Italian to English. I guess it is archeology, paleontology, geology, neolithic and paleolithic periods.

Thanks so much in advance.... See more

I'm afraid they are all monolingual glossaries (EN) but you never know, they could help. If your job has to do with paleontological and geological terms, I don't think you should look after 'archeology glossaries. Archeology is the history of art of ancient times, i.e. of 'historical' times, not of prehistorical ones. For prehistory, the subject is called 'paletnology', which is itself different from 'palentology' (more related to geology and not to tools/instruments/cemeteries/caves/areas and so on

I hope there will be more suggestions, and for IT>EN

Hi Maria,

below are a few resources you may find useful:

http://www.unipg.it/~pmonaco/pages/3.FirmPage.html e http://www.unipg.it/~pmonaco/pages/9.ValdorbiaPage.html
(EN/IT geology notes; index is available at http://www.unipg.it/~pmonaco/pages/FRAMELANCIO.html )

You might start from the above parallel texts to create your own terminology/glossary.

HTH,

Angelica
