Gentili colleghi,

Avrei bisogno dell'equivalente inglese.

Grazie
Paola

"Queen of Spades"/"Pique Dame" ? Mar 23, 2006

"... With the hope of forcing the old woman to reveal her secret, he hides in her bedroom one night. When she sees him the shock kills her, and Herman learns nothing. ..."

Fazit: "Was ist das Leben? Ein Spiel! Ob gut oder böse: alles Phantasien!"

But I cannot find the libretto online and don't think I will be passing Manchester Central Library in the near future (from where I have no doubt borrowed a copy of the libretto or vocal score in the past).

Not so sure Mar 23, 2006

Found the libretto in Spanish at:

http://www.geocities.com/ubeda2004/picas/acto2.htm

Near the end of the second act:

¡Estaba escrito!...
¡Y no conozco su secreto!... ¡Muerte! ¡Muerte!

But not until towards the end of the third act and opera that one gets:

GERMÁN: ¿Qué es la vida?... ¡Un juego!

References do strongly relate "Our life is but a game..." to this opera though.
