Dear translators from Japanese,
Please, explain me, how to count characters in the Japanese text? Do you count every character or every word? And how to count words in hiragana?
Kind regards,
Tanya Mackay

Count by character
Nov 4, 2003
Hi Tanya,
We usually count Japanese by character not by words. We can count Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji alltogether. You can counts characters using counting tool in Trados, Practicount. Of cource, you can count them with MS-word. I think you might need to make MS-Word Japanese compatible though... but as long as you can see Japanese characters, you can count them using word count tool since it shows number of characters too.
