誰かいい日本語向けのOCRソフトを使っていますか。インターネットで探したところ、日本語をサポートしていないOCRソフトが多いけれど"Kanji OCR Software With Kanji Kit"と"Readiris Pro 9 With Asian Add-On"があるそうです。

Conejo-san, what did you decide? Oct 6, 2005

I'm interested to know which software you chose in the end, and whether you have been happy with it.

I had e-Typist on my old system, and was reasonably happy with it (although it seemed to take forever to go through and double-check the accuracy of the character recognition, although that could have just been my pedantic-ness rather than the fault of the software!)

It has been a few years since that came out and I'm sure there must be better packages on the market now.

Hi Kathy Oct 6, 2005

Hello. Thanks for writing.

I ended up getting Yonde Koko (読んde!!ココ is the actual name), which was recommended to me by Katalin Horvath McClure on ProZ.

Disadvantages:
Occasionally you have to watch the 「認識」function, because if it is hand-written or if some of the text is in really light print, it may not count it. But usually it is OK. It is NOT accurate for actually translating off of the "recognized" text. I am not sure if there is any program that is. (Is e-typist accurate?) Also, this is probably a disadvantage of any OCR program, but it takes a lot of time to scan each page (if I am trying to determine the char. count of a faxed or printed document), so usually I only scan a few pages and count the rest that look like those pages, if you know what I mean.

Thanks/E-typist was NOT accurate! Oct 6, 2005

Hi again conejo-san,

Thanks for that quick response! Yonde Koko sounds good - I like that you can create pdf. files in the one package. Were you able to buy it locally in the States or did you have to order from Japan?

As for E-typist, no! - the machine translation function was certainly not accurate (none really seem to be, as you say!). Sometimes it was useful for mass-translating blocks of unfamiliar terminology (to refer to later as necessary), but then again someti

As for E-typist, no! - the machine translation function was certainly not accurate (none really seem to be, as you say!). Sometimes it was useful for mass-translating blocks of unfamiliar terminology (to refer to later as necessary), but then again sometimes the translated terms were so way-off-whack that I later felt the exercise had been a total waste of time.

Also, your description of the 認識 function sounds pretty similar to that of E-typist.
Anyway, thanks again for your input!
Much appreciated!

読んde!!ココ Oct 6, 2005

Hi. Thanks for the information on E-typist. One of my clients was asking me if I knew an OCR program for Japanese that does accurate recognition, and so far I don't think he has found one, either.

In 読んde!!ココ, the clearer the print and the darker the ink, usually the better the results you get in the recognition function. But still, I wouldn't trust it except for character counting.

I bought it from a Japanese website. I don't think they would have it at an English one. I forget what website it was, but you can probably search under the 読んde!!ココ name and find somewhere that sells it. I have Version 10? I think it was? So it seems that it has been around for a while.

Good luck.

I bought mine from A.I.Soft (the manufacturer).
Now it is at version 11, you can try a demo version before you decide to buy it.
Here is the page:

http://ai2you.com/ocr/product/koko11/koko11.asp?C=3

You can order the packaged form (will probably have to pay for shipping, and takes time), or you can just buy the download version (this is what I did) and start working with it right away. In this case, it doesn't matter where you are, all you need is a credit card.

Good luck!

Thanks conejo-san and Katalin.
I will definitely check out the demo for a start.
Thanks for that link, also, Katalin.

I would like to recommend Microsoft proofing tools for OCR. When this software is installed, it adds Japanese OCR capability to the software Microsoft office document imaging. Microsoft office document imaging is a part of Microsoft office.

Hi,

I am also looking for a good OCR software. Right now I am using Readiris Pro 11 Asian version, and it's not accurate enough. I am thinking of getting the newest version of 読んde!!ココ, but it's only compatible with the Japanese version of Windows. How did you get around that? Do you have a Japanese version of Windows? Are you happy with its OCR performance? Is it accurate? I may have to get the Japanese version of Windows if it's worth it.

Any info would be appreciated!!

Alisa

I use Windows XP English version Dec 7, 2007

I use Windows XP English version and it works fine with it.
There is one setting in the Control Panel that may need adjusting - I will tell you if you need it.
Try the demo version with some files that are similar to what you expect to use it for and judge the accuracy yourself.
I got varying results depending on the quality of the images.
Hardcopies that were faxed and scanned at low resolution will not produce good results.
