Can the KudoZ term search function be improved? (staff: 'OK, improvements made')

Interest pairs should be included under "My languages" May 4

Hi Mette,

Yes, if you add pairs as interest languages, they should be searched when using the "My languages" option. Please let me know if that doesn't work for you. Thanks for posting!

Hi All,

I just made some updates to the search page.

4. The fields section is a bit large now and many people are complaining about having to scroll down to see the results. This section will now close after executing a search.

That's what we needed, it will make the term search so much more effective! Thanks a lot for hearing us!

There's only one more little thing that's annoying me: Others complain about having to scroll because the fields section is too large. Personally, I find it annoying that I have to "open" the fields section every time I want to change the fields. Would there be any chance of implementing an option like, say, "Fields section always open" by ticking a box (similar to "Discussion board always open" in the KudoZ dashboard)?

Apart from that - great job!

Hi Colin, thanks for your efforts!
I tried to make several searches, but terms don't appear highlighted and I don't see any size difference (I use Firefox).

not as good as before, in my opinion May 6

I use Kudoz search a lot and I find this new screen layout confusing.
Also, the search results seem to be slower and less reliable.
I definitely preferred what we had previously... and would be happy to see it come back!
Thanks

Well... May 6

I'm not opposed to change, and especially if it includes improvements, but there is one thing that's bugging me big time:
Why does the source language change to any, apparently at random, even though I have entered a specific one and clicked on the search & save settings button???
This is really annoying, and I can't figure out why it is happening, or how to avoid it. Some words are just not to be found in just one language pair, it seems!

Otherwise, I know how much hard work has gone into this, so thank you, and keep up the good work!

would like my language pairs as default May 6

This may have already been covered, but I am short on time as usual so have not been able to read the entire thread.
I would very much like the term search page to have my language pairs as default when I open the page (as it was before). As is probably true for most translators, I work at a very fast pace and need to have the default languages in place when I open the page. It's a time waster to insert them, and I usually forget the first time around!

Thanks

Jennifer

Whatever happened to my stored settings and "reverse look up"???? May 6

I don't mind changing to something better, but this just seems like you guys are playing with it. Changing the interface and options every other day, come on! This platform really could do with an update, but please consider very carefully what options to include and come up with a nice compact UI that is not cluttered with options; 99% of my searches are with just the same options. But include a tab/dropdown/etc with all other options. Please focus on the results and how they are presented. I'd definitely like to see a "search within results" option. An the possibility to use some operators directly in the searchbox (AND OR "" !, etc). And please give us paying members the ability to float the search and results, i.e. the option to get rid of the menus, advertisements (that's why we pay) and other clutter. WAP access would also be great!

Best,

What on earth have they done to Kudoz term search? May 6

I quite agree, Comunican. I tried using Kudoz term search today and it was completely baffling. I couldn't get anything out of it at all in spite of laborious efforts.
Proz staff, please restore it to its former comprehensible format.
Jenny

less results lately May 7

Lately, I've been getting a lot less results than usual... since the visual interface (or whatever it is called) changed.

A search within results would be IDEAL!!! (for those cases when I get 3,456 results)

Language pairs as default May 7

Seconded. When I find a term in KudoZ, I like to read through the discussion, because I don't necessarily choose the answer that got the points When I go back to the term search after this to search for the next term, my settings have disappeared, and I have to enter everything again. So, I agree with Jennifer on this point.

Thanks for all the good work!

Search & save settings May 7

Why is that? Using the "Search & save settings" button instead of just "Search" should solve your problem once and for all.
