Since I usually have to answer my own questions in the end (few technical translator in my language pair I guess), there should be an option for that too. Currently, if someone has suggested an answer, but the answer is not a very good one, I give 1-2 points and actually enter the answer I found elsewhere, not the one suggested, but often there are no suggestions at all, so I cannot do this, or the suggestion isn't even close, so I'm a bit reluctant to award points. Hi, if answers provided are not good enough, you don't have to award any points - you can use the 'decline' function for all answers. Also, you cannot answer your own questions. This is because you would award KudoZ points to yourself which is prohibited and may even lead to ban you from ProZ.com. I know that getting wrong answers is frustrating, but the best way is to decline all answers and eventually squash the question.... It isn't the wrong answers that are most frustrating, it's the almost total lack of any Kudoz activity at all that is. Creating a decent knowledge base instead of just declining should *encourage* more people to participate. Team Kudoz answers don't get points AFAIK, so I think the same should apply to answering your own questions | | | glossary entries | Oct 28, 2003 |
Jörgen said: "Creating a decent knowledge base instead of just declining should *encourage* more people to participate" It looks like the only way around this, is to decline the poor answers received and put the right answer in your own ProZ glossary, preferably with a good explanation for other users, but that is optional. | |

If you mean, just adding an item to your personal glossaries "from scratch" (ie: not connected to a Kudos answer), I have just added a test item to mine, and that continues to work alright (for me at any rate). On the other hand, of you mean "adding a Kudos answer to your personal gloss", I suspect there is a continuing problem there (see bug reports). On the other hand, of you mean "adding a Kudos answer to your personal gloss", I suspect there is a continuing problem there (see bug reports). However, for the suggestion made (creating entries in your personal glossaries as a way of increasing the specialist knowledge base in a language that has a smaller number of members, if Kudoz doesn't produce a helpful answer in a particular specialty) the first function would be all that was needed (please do get in touch if you have problems with this function too). I hope this is of some use, and sympathize with your desire to build up a useful knowledge base in a language with a smaller number of members (and your desire to encourage other members of such a community to participate in Kudos by asking and answering:-)) best wishes Giuli ~Eng Russ Geo~

Currently I have open questions where I already know the answer, but I cannot close the question if there are no suggestions at all, or answer it myself, so it just hangs there | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Want to answer myself, enter gloss when no one answers TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
