For unknown reasons part of the text in the core answer as well as addenda are seen only in old KudoZ design:

http://www.proz.com/kudoz/572155?kd=h2

Another bug?

Yes - OK now, but patching other areas... Nov 17, 2003

Thanks for the heads up, the particular problem you noticed--which was related to your use of 'greater than' and 'less than' signs, which can be mistaken for parts of html tags--is now fixed. There may be other places where it could resurface... I will check, but please also let me know if you see any.

Also in forum postings... (right here, for instance) Nov 18, 2003

Hi Henry and team,

I just posted a reply to one of the fora and the reply posting was abruptly stopped starting at a "less than" sign that I had used. Actually the whole posting appeared when I tried to edit it, but couldn't make it work till I changed the sign for the whole phrase (to "less than").

I guess it's because of this problem with identifying HTML tags. Nothing serious, but of course it's useful to know it happens.

Best,

Rb

Quotation marks too Nov 19, 2003

It's only on the New Design. I get: " instead of the quotation marks ("....").

Hey, Henry, have you switched to my language pairs?... :))) Nov 19, 2003

If that's a bug, it's a keeper

------------

BTW, while we're on the KudoZ display topic: I've been recently noticing another problem. In Cyrillic (Windows) encoding,

1) quotation marks happen to show up (sometimes) as "
(http://www.proz.com/kudoz/573748 - the end sentence of the second paragraph in the answer) Weird enough, the same quotation marks are OK at the top, where the graded answer is quoted...

2)accented characters show up likewise, e.g. ö for "o umlaut" (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/573728 - second answer)

There are no such abnormalities when I view questions from the EN>DE pair, for instance.

FYI I've been using Cyrillic (Windows), with Auto-select unchecked, ever since I joined ProZ in May; also, I'm using the new KudoZ design since it first appeared. Win98SE, IE6.0, no recent changes or reinstallations, no recently installed new software that could (eventually) mix up the encoding or the screen fonts. Never had such problems before.

ADDED: Yep, back to normal now - thanks, Henry

BTW I'm not kidding about the language pairs: beneath your photo (the one that is next to your posts - I mean both of them) you have English > Bulgarian and Bulgarian > English!!! Is it possible that the replacement takes place only on my computer? Hmmm...

'Blagodarya' is correct

Thanks. There are some tradeoffs in dealing with encodings, and I am trying to figure out what is best for our community. I made the change that will allow these characters to be shown properly ( on top of the change that will allow the use of > and < )

This may introduce other problems. Please keep me posted!

Blagodarya (?)
