I have ten on mine - they're all people I regard as consistently abusing KudoZ by asking huge numbers of very easy questions or repeatedly failing to provide context. But I often wonder whether, if I was a bit more assiduous about filtering people, and excluded them by the dozen, KudoZ would become a more enjoyable and less frustrating experience. What do you think?

My use of Kudoz is rather sporadic and I haven't filtered anybody out yet. I'm fairly sure about who is one of your "filterees". My current preference is to see all the questions and simply ignore the ones that I can't answer or think are too trivial.

81 right now, including 6 Certified PRO members.
I usually add four or five people more when I spend more than 30 minutes checking questions. I have difficulty coping with people who abuse the system or are plain unpolite with their colleagues.

But I filter "Not for points" questions because I don't like people who are too lazy to say "Thank you".

As a comparatively new member of this site, I have only had cause to filter one person to date. This individual struck me as particularly lacking in professionalism. Having said that I can understand the frustrations expressed by others with regards to the use of the KudoZ forum. Indeed I anticipate that over time I will likewise become progressively more selective by filtering out certain users whom I consider to be rude, unprofessional, or consistently wasting the time of other users.

I don't choose to receive notifications and I have a wide range of interests, so I prefer to just see all the questions; by filtering, I suppose you miss out on - well, certain things.

I'm very glad there is a filter because one user is so outrageously abusive that even seeing the name pop up made me want to avoid the site altogether. Hundreds and hundreds questions asked and none answered, and I was once contacted privately by the offending party and offered a job at less than three cents a word. Said "translator" was "shocked" that I didn't want to take the job (roll eyes).

I don't want to get notifications by e-mail. I go to the site every morning and choose the questions I'm interested in. Because of the time difference, most of the questions have already been answered - all I get to do is decide which one I think is best.

Personally I think there are Kudoz users who do not deserve to be helped, be it because of sheer unpoliteness and lack of respect for the people who will save their translation job, or because they feel that Kudoz is there only to serve them and not to share in a community.
Anyone who does not care about other people enough to be polite and to explain the question, or those who show a disproportionate question/answer rate get filtered with no further consideration.
I know this sounds harsh, but it is my way of optimising my time in Kudoz. I do not want to see questions in which I will never help anyway.

Point taken, although it would never occur to me to say "thank you" unless I had something useful to add (and I dislike it when people say "thank you" to me on KudoZ, and nothing more), because it just adds yet another mail to the mailbox, that takes up my time and interrupts my workflow, for no useful purpose. But... I guess some people who don't say "thank you" do so not because they are thoughtful but because they are thoughtless.

For one or more of the following reasons:
- don't close questions for months on end (or ever),
- never answer KudoZ themselves,
- enquire about basic terms like "interest payment" when translating a business/finance text,
- repeatedly choose answers that are ridiculously off.

I agree with Nicole.
@Samuel - isn't "thank you" useful enough?

2 or 3: I don't keep a record of those, but the main reason for filtering them out is that they ask (very) easy questions and rank them PRO.
No thanks. | | | |
