Hi! I'm new... I'm wondering about the way to fill in general expertise? I notice that when I look at the KudoZ questions, that they are in special categories... does that mean I cannot answer if I'm not in that category OR can I put all general categories in my expertise because I can absolutely translate? Hmmmm color me confused...
Thanks,

And why do I get e-mails on new terms that need translating, but when I log in they're not there? It's happened twice since yesterday...

If you mean the categories at the top, right under the question, these are further specifications of the question - what field the question falls in. The asker fills this in when submitting a term. This does not mean you have to be a specialist in that field to answer if you can. It just helps people to put the question into context. Further context or one or more actual sentence(s) should be given under the question.

How long does it take before a KudoZ point is added to a profile?
Thanks for putting up with me!

Thanks Emma... but is it usual that nothing happens? There are so many answers, but I don't see anyone getting points.

I've had a quick look at the questions you've answered. You're right, no points have been awarded yet, probably for the following reasons:
1. Askers are encouraged to wait at least 24 hours before closing the question (which means choosing the answer that they find the most helpful and awarding points to that answer).
So, any questions you have answered in the last 24 hours certainly shouldn't have any points awarded yet.
2. Answers without many agrees. If there is no answer that stands out from the rest, with several agrees to back it up, the asker may be waiting for further contributions.
3. Some new askers are not members or even registered users; they just ask a couple of questions and then disappear (you can see this if you hover over their names). They don't bother to award points. The system tries to amend this by automatically awarding points to the answer that has the most agrees and a minimum of two after a couple of weeks.
I do recommend that you read the FAQs on KudoZ that Daniela pointed you to. It gives a clear explanation of how the KudoZ system works. | | | | | | |
