How to grade whole sentence fair?

Hello,

I asked a Kudoz question, a whole sentence (English > German).
Now I've got several answers and I have decided to combine the suggested solutions because I don't agree to 100 % with any given translation. But in every sentence there is a very useful part...

As this grading is a very sensitive thing for some people I don't want to "upset" anyone by not grading fair...

What can I do?

Linda

Explain Aug 13, 2004

Hi Linda

You can chose the one that helped you the most, explaining that you'd have appreciated to be able to share points because you took useful advice from each of them.
You can also give your final translation.

Everyone will be glad to see that you're thankful and won't worry about the points.
People's reaction is different depending on how things happen.
If you chose one of the answers with no explanations you could expect a different reaction.

Claudia

How to pick an answer Aug 13, 2004

I fully endorse Claudia's wisdom.

As for choosing an answer, I would suggest:
a) pick the one you found more useful.
b) If more than one share this category, pick among them the one that arrived first.

Hope it helps
Enrique

Dear LiMaBi,

We are to award points to the answer that has been "the most helpful" one, not necessarily the most correct one.
The most helpful one might have solved the heaviest part of the problem.
Glossary entry is another matter.

BR

Mats

Sentences in KudoZ Aug 13, 2004

Giovanni,

the KudoZ area is defined as "terminology help" but it can be used to ask for help in general, for any linguistic problem, even for a whole sentence if the problem cannot be reduced to a single term. The general attitude has always been relaxed on this regard.

What is not acceptable is to post several sentences in sequence, when they can be seen as an attempt to get your work done by other translators, not just a little help for a difficulty. These requests are considered an abuse of the KudoZ system and often removed by the moderators.

Gianfranco

Thanks to all! Aug 13, 2004

Thanks a lot for all your answers!
It was the first time for me to post a whole sentence and I didn't think about that as a problem because I've seen that several times before...

Now I will try to grade as you all suggested: the most helpful with a respective note.

Thanks again!

Linda
