Hi,
It feels pretty embarrassing when you see that another colleague has posted exactly the same answer while you were looking for the last checks.
It could be very convenient if we got an alert or warning at the moment we click on the "post..." button saying: identical answer already posted! and then ask if you still wish to post your answer or not.

Surely "great minds" are allowed to think alike?

If it happens that you post an identical answer without refreshing the page first, just hide the answer and agree with your colleague.

There are already enough bells and whistles on site, let's not complicate things further when the solution is already available.

Two more options... Aug 21, 2005

Or:

There could be a message "Another answer has been posted recently", as the system records the time of the answer (and it might record when we started answering the question).

Or:

When we submit answer, the system might display refreshed page with all the answers and the final "Submit" button. I know it is an additional step, but most people refresh the answers just before submitting anyway.

Just a thought: you might submit exactly the same term as another answerer, but give more useful or precise information and/or relevant examples, based on your experience and specialisation (and that's why your answer displays later, as you mention).
If the other answerer has submitted only the term without any explanation, the asker can the decide which answer is the most useful... and it will surely be yours
I don't see any reason why a doublon should be avoided, provided the explanations given are different.

I have never pretended to be a "great mind" but I am very much aware of the presence of them among ordinary mortals in this forum.

could this help? Aug 21, 2005

do you use the explorer toolbar?
there is an icon with 2 green arrows - this refreshes the internet page.

If you have not yet opened a kudoz answer box, you can use the "page refresher" to visualize the latest additions to that kudoz page (before entering your response).

I agree with the others that it should not be seen as embarrassing; not everyone has the same-speed internet connection which may affect how quickly your response is recorded.

Nothing wrong with two exact answers Aug 21, 2005

Tung Sherefedin,
I also agree with the above posters who say that there is nothing wrong with two identical answers that are given within a short period of time from each-other. The answers might be the same, but the explanation or references might be different. You are trying to help and this is the most important thing.

Monika

Calma there...... Aug 21, 2005

Calma - it was meant tongue in cheek - hence the inverted commas - nothing else intended.

Anyhow, as others have pointed out if yours is more helpful because of other references, leave it - the asker is free to choose the most helpful answer.

If it is "identical" - i.e. 100% the same - and you don't feel it has any added value, you can always remove it.

Keep well
