So in what way don't I meet the criteria? No other criterion is mentioned.

Jack, I'd submit a support request. I think it's a bug.
The same happened to me a while back. The message said I didn't meet the criteria (although I did), then I hit Refresh and the message changed, saying that I met the criteria, I hit Refresh again and it changed back. I think I reported it, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Jack,
For some reason I meet the criteria. (Yes, I am a native Brit).
If I knew Russian, I would even be able to read the question ;---))))

However, something fishy is going on. I couldn't reply to you with the "Reply/Comment" button, the only way to respond was with the "Reply with quote" button.

Seen this before Feb 24, 2006

Hello Jack,

I'm pretty sure this is a bug. I remember having seen this in the "Jobs" section before. Let's hope this technical glitch (and I'm convinced this is one) will soon be taken care of.

It's been sorted out now Feb 24, 2006

Just been back to the same page and the note now reads:

The asker has directed this question specifically to ProZ.com users who:
... are native speakers of English (You have reported that you are)
You meet the criteria and are invited to suggest a translation

So whatever the problem was, it's been sorted out now.

I've noticed that it can flip-flop back and forth. Sometimes I meet the criteria when I open the question, but suddenly don't after submitting an answer.

I usually just tend to ignore what it says since it seems pretty inconsistent.

Yes, I have to ignore this, as it's been inconsistent for me as well.
