Is this just a bug or am I missing something?:

The asker has directed this question specifically to ProZ.com users who:
... work in this pair (Your profile shows that you do)
... report a "working" level of expertise in the subject field (You have)
... are ProZ.com members (You are)
Although you do not meet the criteria, you may suggest a translation if you like.

I get the same thing all the time! May 27, 2006

I'm sure it's a bug. I've seen it many times, just got it this afternoon on a targeted question. Yes, you meet the criteria, and even though you don't, it's OK if you answer anyway. Makes no sense at all, does it? I just go ahead and answer and it all works out OK in the end.

Same here! May 27, 2006

I have also seen this many times. If I'm not mistaken, this bug has already been brought to the attention of the mods and admins here, but it seems as if nothing much has been done about this glitch. Let's hope it will soon be fixed.

We could probably scratch that last line anyway May 27, 2006

What's the point of that last line? Once we've seen the criteria we can choose to answer or pass on that question on our own, no need to rub it in imo.

I barely pay attention to this, because this happens to me so often that this "critieria" doesn't even mean anything to me.

It's kind of pointless even having the criteria in the first place, since people can do what they want anyway, regardless of what the asker requests.

Plus sometimes the subject fields are so ill-defined that it makes no sense at all. I say "trash it", it's useless.

Useless, yes May 28, 2006

I remember seeing I don't meet the criteria because the field was "Other" and I had not listed "Other" as a working field.

I actually had the same problem. It's definitely a bug. I wonder what takes the mods so long to fix it. I don't really pay attention to the last line either.

Mod(erator)s cannot fix bugs May 29, 2006

Hi Ara,

Moderators cannot fix bugs as they don't have access to the programming interface of the site. What we can do, however (and already did in this case), is to point out this bug to ProZ.com programmers/developers, who will take care of it in due course. Please be aware that there are many things on their to-do list, so it may take a while until this issue gets attended to.

Steffen

It is especially distracting to see it next to Answerers names. Not officially 'stating' that one works in a field does not mean that one knows nothing about it. I saw someone give a really good answer the other day, but next to her name, in red, was "does not meet criteria". it's silly -not really much of a guide. I am free to state I work/specialise in Engineering and if I answer an Engineering question (which we both know will never happen), then it will state "meets the criteria". which I don't and never will.

A few examples, please May 30, 2006

Hello everyone,

I started looking at this problem today. If those of you that have seen this could provide me with a link to a few specific questions that are showing with the faulty message, I can fix the problem that much faster.

Thanks,
Andrew Wright

KudoZ bug May 30, 2006

Here's one Andrew:

It's a targeted question from German to English. My native language is English and here's what I see when I open the question:

... work in this pair (Your profile shows that you do)
... report a "specialty" level of expertise in the subject field (You have)

Here's another for Andrew May 30, 2006

English term or phrase: Nondirective, noncoercive counseling

***This translation is for Puerto Rico, in case there are several options for "counseling."***

I specialize in Social Sciences, including Psychology, and I'm even from Puerto Rico! This is what I see:

Alright, I think I fixed it. Let me know if anyone spots any more incorrectly labeled restrictions.
