We would like to invite you to submit proposals or simply to attend the International Conference Points of View in Language and Culture: Audiovisual Translation which will be held at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, 14-15 October 2011.
The conference is co-organized by Polish Association of Audiovisual Translators (STAW) and Foundation Audio Description.
We are hoping for this conference to bring together the academics and the professionals. Our keynote speakers are: Jorge Diaz Cintas, Yves Gambier and Pilar Orero. We are also expecting representatives from the different national associations of audiovisual translators.
The deadline for proposal submission is January 31 2011.
Points of View in Language and Culture: Audiovisual Translation in Krakow is a response to a growing body of research in this area with ever-increasing demands placed on interpreters and translators. Special attention will be given to the developments in audiovisual translation theory and their practical application. We hope to bring together theorists and practitioners working on the problems of captioning, subtitling, voice-over, dubbing, surtitling, audio description, SDH, but also flash, game (computer and video games), website and software localisation to help foster dialogue and exchange of ideas between them, always bearing in mind that theory informs practice and practice informs theory. We hope to be able to discuss new perspectives, reflecting the developments of the rapidly changing discipline.
