Dates: 25-26 Sep 16, 2005

Hi Yurij,
I can't find where in the hotel website they say 29th? Can you send me a link in private? Obviously, there must be a mistake - the conference is definitely on 25-26 November 2005

Since we will be starting at around 9 o'clock in the morning, the best is to arrive on 24th. Also, the sessions are planned to run through afternoon on Saturday.

Thanks for notifying, I will contact the hotel to correct their website.

HTH
Magda

A trap for Polish speakers :)) Sep 16, 2005

I saw the hotel website and noticed that Polish speakers can be indeed confused about the dates: the address of the hotel is 29 listopada (which means 29th November!) and the banner on the booking page reads: Welcome to Kraków 29th November!!

But our conference is on 25-26 definitely. I hope participants won't be confused by this date and address similarity!

Best,
Magda

Still waiting for confirmation Sep 17, 2005

Hi Magda, I booked the hotel 2 weeks ago and got an automatic reply that I would receive a confirmation w/i 14 days. As yet I did not see anything although I saw messages in this thread from other participants that they already got confirmation earlier this week. I am a bit reluctant to make a firm airline/conference reservation as long as I'm not sure whether I will have a bed to rest at night or not. What would you advise me to do? (Reservation has been made in the name of Herman de Kruyff).

Same problem Sep 17, 2005

I'm in the same situation - booked the hotel 2 weeks ago, but haven't received any confirmation.

Confirmations from the hotel Sep 17, 2005

Hi Herman and Jana,

when I talked with the hotel this week, they confirmed again that they are receiving all bookings and are sending out confirmations (delayed, due to their recent system change...grrr). Let me call them and check the current status of your bookings, OK?

Magda

Although I only booked them yesterday, if it's not a problem, could you check mine, please.

Hotel System wants photocopy of back and front of my credit card Sep 22, 2005

Hi Magda,

This morning, I received an e-mail from the Hotel System with an authorisation form attached, on which I am not only to fill out my credit card information but also attach a photocopy of both the front and back of my credit card. I'm happy to provide my card number etc. but not the photocopies.

Could you investigate this and ensure that the hotel is happy to accept the authorisation form without photocopies of the credit card.

Thanks very much.

Rebekka

This is the security policy of Hotel System Sep 22, 2005

The credit card will be charged when we arrive at the hotel, not before. So they want to be sure, that such credit card does really exist. This is the reason for asking to fax a photocopy of your credit card.

However, if you have any objections to do so, please inform the hotel about it. I´ve just spoken with Mrs Monika Król and she told me, that the hotel will then accept CC details without a faxed copy of it.

Regards
Jerzy

Thank you. Mrs Monika Krol didn't answer the same question that I addressed her. She prefers to communicate with me through you, then.

Thanks for the quick response Jerzy Sep 22, 2005

The reason I'm not prepared to send a photocopy of the card is that it could be used to make up a fake card. I've sent an e-mail to Monika Król and will make a note on the form to let them know the reason why I'm not attaching photocopies of the card.

Thanks again.

Viele Grüße,

Rebekka

I understand your objections Sep 22, 2005

However, simple giving the number and authorisation code of your CC allready opens a lot of possibilities to abuse it.
If I would send a copy of my CC via fax (and I needed to do so in the past, when buyng goods in US, paying with my european CC), I would make the signature illegible.
But any of you will do as you prefer.

Regarding the communication: I have CALLED the hotel. They have allways answered my questions. You will find the proper phone number in your confirmation mails or on the hotel website. You can expect, that the hotel assistants do at least speak English. So if you have any questions regarding your personal reservation do not hesitate to contact the hotel directly.

Regards
Jerzy

credit card payment for Hotel System Sep 26, 2005

Hi,

At the end of last week, I received an e-mail from Monika Król advising me that after speaking to Magda with regards to several people's (me included) fears about sending photocopies of their credit cards, the Hotel System are willing to change their policy on this occasion and are now asking that we send our credit card number and expiry date by e-mail. I'm sorry if I'm sounding hard to please but e-mail is a very insecure method of communication and I am not prepared to send credit card details this way, the same as I would never provide credit or debit card information on an unsecure web site. Instead, I've decided to fax my credit card details to the hotel using the fax number at the bottom of the e-mail, which worked after a couple of attempts.

Incidentally, my partner was in Krakow in July and has only now found out that her office was also asked to provide a photocopy of the credit card used to pay for the trip. They didn't think about potential security issues and did as they were asked, only to find on their next statement that an unauthorised £700 had been charged to their card. They had to get the police involved and eventually got their money back.

Jerzy's suggestion to deface the signature would probably contribute to increasing security. However, that still does not stop someone using the card over the phone or on the internet where a signature is not required. Copying the back of the credit card is particularly dodgy, IMO, because that's where the 3-digit security number is located.

My two cents' worth.

Rebekka

If I may give you an advice Sep 26, 2005

so I would call the hotel and give them the CC number via phone.
I fully understand your objections.

Hotel cash payment too ? Sep 28, 2005

I've got my confirmation for my single room within 5 days now.
If I arrive before 6 p.m. (18.00) I do not need an extra guarantee for the room, right?

I still have some questions:
- Cash payment is ok, too? (I got no credit card)
- I can use the PC in the lounge ?(maybe I have to work a bit and got no laptop)

Pozdrawiam
Steffi

MODERATOR
Attention BARCELONA Sep 28, 2005

Easyjet just mailed me saying a Barcelona>Berlin option is now available. Recommended route = Barcelona>Berlin>Cracow. Round trip shouldn't cost more than 90 eu.

In the event an overnight stay is needed, Holiday Inn's airport hotel is 60 eu. a night.

See you!
