Usually you should get a receipt from the taxi driver without any problems Oct 11, 2005

but only if you do not meet the "Taxi Driver" from 1976...

If you ask him for "faktura" or "rachunek", then you should get what you need

Regards
Jerzy

Problems with coming Oct 12, 2005

Take a look at this page. You can find cars from 10 Euro per day there.

I really would like to attend the conference.
The main problem is that the only direct flight grom Tel-Aviv to Krakow is Friday morning. Due time is about 8:00, which means I will be really late. And there is no flight on Thursday.

I'm still investigating other possibilities.

Why only direct Oct 12, 2005

You can fly via some other country. Surely there must be some deals. Have you investigated this possibility?

Cheers,
Burrell

Surely there would be more regular flights from Tel Aviv to the capital, Warsaw. If not, then certainly to Berlin, I would have thought. Or Prague?

Visa Electron cards Oct 14, 2005

Can anyone in Poland tell me if ATM machines accept Visa Electron cards? I haven't bothered getting a corporate Visa card, as the annual fee is ridiculous here in Latvia - and I've now realised that I could be a bit stuck when I arrive in Krakow, as I can't get PLN at my local bank either.

Thanks in advance.
Jana

Thanks Jerzy Oct 14, 2005

Thanks Jerzy, but Visa Electron and Maestro are 2 different types of debit card. Also, despite having clicked on the correct flag symbol it seems the 'kartylonline' site is all in Polish, apart from the front page.

Visa, MasterCard, AmEx - no problem Oct 14, 2005

I don't know what Maestro sign is and none of my cards carry it, but Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard, American Express and such are accepted by a dense network of cash machines and in shops, hotels, etc.
Should not be any problem with that.

Magda

Maestro has replaced the prior Eurocheque (EC) card Oct 14, 2005

And this is not a credit card (debit card to be precise).
The sign may be seen here.

All debit cards are widely accepted in Poland - we use Visa, Master and Amex without any problems there.

Jerzy

Maestro Card has nothing to do with it in this case.
And Visa Elctron will work just fine in Poland. I know what I say. If not, I will pay for all your expenses

Cash machines in airport Oct 17, 2005

I just checked the Mastercard website and it looks like Krakow airport does not have cash machines where you can withdraw cash with your Mastercard. I checked Visa (out of curiosity) with the same results. Could it be that there is no cash machine in Krakow airport? I understand there is a bank and currency exchange but bank is not open late. How do you get from airport to the hotel if you cannot get the cash?

Rgds,
Burrell

Those websites are very loosely connected with reality especially when it goes about countries like Poland or, say, Latvia. Just out of curiosity count how many ATM machines you know where you live and how many are listed on those websites.
