I just got the news that a friend, colleague and fellow ProZ member (http://www.proz.com/translators/712?bs=1), Walter Lockhart, has just passed away. He had been battling against cancer for years and recently received news that the most recent treatment had failed and he was given only months to live. He had no regrets and no sadness - he said that he had done everything he wanted to do in lif... He had been battling against cancer for years and recently received news that the most recent treatment had failed and he was given only months to live. He had no regrets and no sadness - he said that he had done everything he wanted to do in life. He taught me a lesson about life that will take me a long time to fully comprehend.
For those of you who knew him, he has specifically asked not to send flowers; rather, through his son, he made a special request. His son's note follows. RIP, Walter!
Dear everyone,
I’m Walter F. Lockhart’s son. It’s very sad for me to inform you of this
death. He himself asked me to let you know. He continued working until
the end.
There was a wish he expressed before passing away. If any of you wanted
to send flowers, you should know he asked people to make a donation,
instead. He wanted people to collaborate in a project organized by the
/AEMS—Ríos con Vida /Association called “Adopt-a-river”. Their account

The account number his son gave out is for a Spanish bank. I don't know if it's possible for people to make donations from outside Spain - IBAN and Swift nos. are probably required. If anybody is interested in donating, perhaps the best thing would be to send an e-mail to his son, Edward Lockhart, at [email protected]

I have lost a good friend and a wonderful colleague. The world will be a poorer place without Walter in it, but I feel truly privileged to have known him. He gave me some wonderful pieces of advice over the years and the serenity and acceptance with which he faced his last few weeks were remarkable. I can only hope that when my time comes I will be able to say that I have done everything I wanted to do. An example to all of us.

Sad news indeed. Although we never met in person, we collaborated on a few projects (he sub-contracting me when his work load was too much).
Walter was always a perfect gentleman in all of our transactions and on the phone sounded a really warm human being. I shall miss him.
