Just what I needed - thanks for that!

That Pepsi Cola one is a hoot!

Where are the target translations? Sep 13, 2006

Just a pity they didn't mention the translated texts, so we have to trust them to have translated all of it back to correct English.

And it was Coca Cola, not Pepsi

Yes, this is indeed a shame.

Well, there is actually a Pepsi translation right above the Coca Cola one.

Do Francophones have more fun? Sep 13, 2006

Recently, I went to a museum in Canada.
They had a bilingual board indicating activities for the day
and as a translation for "Enjoy yourself!", they wrote "Jouissez-vous!".

After all, translations for museums in Canada should be handled by the Translation Bureau, not a machine!
I sure hope it wasn't in Québec, or in Ottawa!

Lower Fort Garry Sep 13, 2006

It was at Lower Fort Garry, a federally-run museum located in Lockport, Manitoba.

The text written on the whiteboard that day was obviously handled by the immersion students working there.

Here's an example where we might not have been worse off with machine translation!

Electrolux Sep 13, 2006

I took a picture of a billboard with this exact slogan, in Liverpool, England, in 1987.

Nothing sucks ... Sep 14, 2006

Have heard the Electrolux one many times before. Always in a crude joke context though - never had anything to do with the vacuum cleaner itself

Thank you A. J.! Oct 3, 2006

Very funny indeed

I rather like the fartfull desk, and the drugdealer's mineral water - LOL

Perfect examples to show the importance of lingustic checks of brand names etc. before taking your products across any border.
