Interesting Feb 26, 2007

Thanks for the link!

I do, however, wonder once more why everybody outside of our industry seems to think that the main activity of an interpreter is to translate. Even long before I had the slightest interest in translation, I still called an interpreter an interpreter and a translator a translator. Why are people not seeing the difference?

Learn to play ball Feb 26, 2007

Of course we can see that the players make millions while their interpreters still make peanuts.

Forget this profession and learn to play ball or become an entertainer, etc.

Sad Feb 26, 2007

The story is pretty sad. They even made interpeters into personal assistants! Not to mention the fact that an interpreter's main responsibility is to "translate."

Many aspects make an intrepreter Apr 21, 2007

I checked out the link and since I don't want to register with the umpteenth site, I'll just comment like this:
A (good) interpreter needs to be a/an:
- psychologist
- psychiatrist (no, don't laugh!)
- magician
- friend
- enemy
- confidente
- machine (very often)
- clock
- notebook
- time machine
- secretary
....................................and many other things all rolled into one.
