Good bye, Fabio! Mar 8, 2009

Dear Fabio,

It's a tremendous loss that you quit.

However, I completely understand your situation. As you know from our private discussion, I'm considering quitting, too, and so are many others. I'm still fighting to keep my motivation on the level that I can continue as a mod.

I'm not really sure how ProZ.com is planning to replace all the leaving, committed volunteers, but I hope this will not hurt the community as much as I fear it will. And I hope and pray that the rest of the mods (me including) will be able to persist through these difficult time. I'm convinced that committed modding is essential for the site.

Best luck, and we'll be in touch anyway!

Some days after my resignation: looking back Mar 12, 2009

Hi people

Some days after leaving my role as Mod, I took a breath, looked back, and remembered lots of positive things that I wanna share with you all. It's worth reading.

I have been taking part as a professional member of ProZ since the beginning of 2004. One year before, I had attended a telework seminary in Montevideo, and was looking for useful ways to promote my services. When I happened to find a website called ProZ.com, my professional life changed for good; here I found a valuable marketplace at worldwide scale, where I could find all the resources necessary to make a career as language service provider for foreign clients. And, although the way was not very easy, after 2 years trying and trying, I managed to establish myself.

In August 2006 a new era started for me inside ProZ.com: I decided to attend the International Conference, held in Buenos Aires. There I started meeting people working at ProZ.com. Guess who was the very first ProZian I greeted in person? The user No. 1 - yes: Henry.

From August 2006 onwards, so many activities were held in Uruguay, with me participating as organizer: 8 powwows (there had never been one), 7 local trainings (including the very first one in ProZ.com history at world scale), etc. With our paramount moment: the Regional Conference in August 2008, a great collective effort (this time, the very first conference for translators in all the history of my country!)

Thanks, Fabio, you have been a great moderator!

As I told you when we spoke by phone, I used you as an example at the moderator meeting, making the point (citing your leadership in trainings and organizing the Montevideo conference) that one can contribute in various ways around here, with or without the moderator title.

I am grateful for the energy and creativity you bring to this place. See you around.

I didn't attend the last moderator meeting, so I won't give any opinions about it. If Henry mentioned me, well, that was his point of view (although I assume that he cared about my activity). About this, just two points to remark:
1) in my special case, my activity as a Moderator was one more of several activities. This thread was just meant to say "farewell as a Mod", and as a "thank you" to my fellow ModZ.
2) Nevertheless, I want to tell that many the other activities, especially trainings and the Conference, were possible thanks to the leadership of a wonderful ex-staff member I miss: Leonardo Fusero. Thanks Leo too!

I love my community, and for sure, I will stay active here.

See ya around!
