Rimmer, one of the crew of "Red Dwarf" (UK TV series) was landed with a tax bill from the Outland Revenue (as opposed to the Inland Revenue) for two million pounds because the spaceship had been in a state of suspended animation for hundreds of years. Doubtless the US External Revenue Service and the Betelgeuse tax authorities would do the same.
Hm... I reckon aliens' first problem would be to understand the accent of the likes of Crag Charles in the series.

But they've still gotta pay for my time.
After all, if I'm out of the loop for my regular clients for a light year or two, someone's gotta compensate me.
$$$$$ €€€€€
Victor, sorry to say that, but I don't think you will get this job (nor anyone else). Prot (played by Kevin Spacey) from the planet called K-Pax managed to learn English instantly, on his way down to the planet Earth. They all do, I mean aliens. So if I was you, I would count on these bucks

Mind reading

Aren't aliens supposed to have more advanced brains, i.e. reading what we are going to say before we actually utter it. The person speaking will not have to speak actually, for the alien interpreter to convey their words and thoughts.
40 cognitive coins/ per thought. If it's a complicated or ambivalent thought then 80 cog. coins
And means of payment: have them transferred to their alien bank account.

How about photographic memories as glossaries? How much would an image or frame of photographic mental glossary be worth to an alien agency?

Given the super advanced brains, they probably overcame notions such as money, or monetary values. It's all about mind power lol

At least the doctors must be. There is the alien hand syndrome (AHS) which is a rare neurological disorder that causes hand movement without the person being aware of what is happening or having control over the action.

Fun: UFO/Alien translations

The way things are going, we won't need to wait for aliens before the "pay up or get blown up" system becomes the norm here, though I can't really see myself adding that to the bottom of my bills.
And, as you suggest, the babelfish won't really help. At least when two people don't understand each other, there's room for giving the other the benefit of the doubt, or for an interpreter to "tweak" the level of insult.
Do not worry about alien translations! Aliens will use intergalactic telepathy (and intergalactic tele-antipathy...) patterns to communicate with us. So, no doubst about insults level neither insult level tweaking needed. You will understand them quite well...
But if you still need an alien translator, I'm available because I'm one of them. But, do not say it. Humans would make me a necroscopy before I died...
Note: (not drunk, really!).
