Adam Jacot de Boinot has written The Meaning of Tingo. It's a collection of foreign words that have no English equivalent. Example? "Gurfa," an Arabic word for the amount of water scooped up in one hand.

A friend of mine sent me the above link and I found it fascinating. Not to mentioned that, according to the author, he started all this because he found 27 Albanian words, that have no equal in English, from an Albanian dictionary. I hope you will also find it interesting.

The cartoon Ripley's Believe It or Not recently ran the Danish word "Ølfrygt" (they misattributed it as Dutch), meaning the fear that you will not be able to obtain a decent beer while on a journey.

Oh how I know the feeling...
