"Avec le yiddish, vous avez pris une langue vivante depuis 8 ou 900 ans, et vous êtes parvenus à la faire mourir en faisant revivre l’hébreu."

Found in "Yiddish, mots d'un peuple, peuple de mots" de Miriam Weinstein (Yiddish : a Nation of words)

Maybe someone kwows from which book of Singer is this quotation ?

Thanks a lot in avance
Nathalie

Amazon's "search inside" Sep 10, 2006

I found this very useful tip on http://www.proz.com/post/407660#407660

With the Amazon.com "search inside this book" function, you can usually find quotations using some keywords.
I searched for "nine hundred years" and got three results. This seems to be what you are looking for

on Page 127:
"... although Israeli Jews have resurrected Hebrew, "Vith Yiddish, you took a living language vhich vas alive for some eight or nine hundred years and managed to kill it." Menachem Begin, who had himself grown up in a Yiddish-speaking home, began pounding his fist ..."

p.s. Oops, I see now you were looking for the title of Singer's book, not the quotation in English.
In any case, I hope it helped

I used Daniela's technique, and it seems this is the title you're looking for:

Just a guess. Sep 10, 2006

The quotation might be from a documentary, "Isaac in America: A Journey with Isaac Bashevis Singer," instead of a book by him.

Get a copy of the film and you might be able to find the statement in it.

And do remember that even if you have the English version, it is still not necessarily the original version, since Singer most wrote in Yiddish and then either translated it into English himself or had it translated.
