I searched for "nine hundred years" and got three results. This seems to be what you are looking for

The quotation might be from a documentary, "Isaac in America: A Journey with Isaac Bashevis Singer," instead of a book by him.

Get a copy of the film and you might be able to find the statement in it.

And do remember that even if you have the English version, it is still not necessarily the original version, since Singer most wrote in Yiddish and then either translated it into English himself or had it translated.
