Analysis ? Oct 7, 2008

My first guess would be to run an analysis on the file and see if there are any untranslated words left.

Explanation Oct 7, 2008

The question was how to check for missing translation in a bilingual file, correct ?

Assuming you translate with Trados, you can run an analysis on your bilingual file and if segments have been missed or left untranslated, this should show in the analysis as "No match" segments.

Must be some bug Oct 7, 2008

Actually when I look at the "most recent topics" page, I can see that this topic wasn't started by you - so clearly you're not mad and were responding to something which is no longer there...

Apologies for delay - original post is now visible again Oct 7, 2008

No bug folks - its only that the opening post had been edited by the poster after it had been posted, and so it was waiting to be vetted by the forum's moderator before it could be displayed.
Sorry for keeping you waiting and for the confusion this caused!

cheers,
Roberta

file check and QA is not the same Oct 7, 2008

Please explain what you want to do.
If you speak about QA, you may be referring to a Web site or to some kind off software.
In which case, QA will try to spot (among others) messages which have NOT been integrated in a translatable message catalog (this is a developer error, not a translator error).

Try this tool, it has some nifty time-saving features. I'm surprised it's free.

Use updated TM Oct 7, 2008

It did feel like I was the twilight zone for a moment here

Pierce603, to answer to your question, I would use the updated TM, i.e. the TM as it stands after you have completed the translation of your file.

Be aware that this "trick" will be totally useless if, while doing the translation, you copied the source segment in the target segment, in those cases when you did not know how to translate a sentence or an expression for example. Indeed, Trados will just see that there is a pair "source segment-target segment" and will count it as 100% match even though the translated segment is actually the source text.
