Has anyone had experience with participating in Link Echange programmes to mutually improve search engine rankings for their websites ?

I am looking to setting one up for my website, since I can only translate between English and German, i wanted to find other translators for other language combinations who specialise in medicine and pharma.

Best wishes

does not play any significant role anymore (Google is getting smarter every day).

I would suggest that you buy a Google Ads campaign, then set up a Twitter account to market your website and services, as well as have a blog where you will put your articles about the industry and the fields you work in.

That is much more effective.

When using Twitter, you can read 'Twitter Marketing For Dummies' - this book will give you valuable information about how to use this tool in order to attract new clients.

I am not sure if thats completely true, up to date SEO still stresses the need to have incoming links, especially from sites with a high relevancy and Page Rank. SEO is always changing because Google and others are always tweaking their algorithms, as they did with the recent Panda updates. One of the most recent textbooks on SEO updated in 2011 (post panda) still stressed the importance of links in from qualified sites.

I am not doing exhaustive SEO, there is no point and only major companies have the resources for that. And for translation in particular, you would have to commit the budget of a small african nation to get anywhere near the first organic listing. Some SEO would be beneficial however just to get the quality scores up for Adwords campaigns, and bring the click prices down. That is why i am doing it. I think similar algorithms are employed for SEO and Quality Score determination.
