"Everything you do on social sites has this ultimate goal, the Holy Grail: online visibility boost! This is the whole point of the Internet marketing game. And what is this goal about, ultimately? It’s about being found before the competition."

Anne had a great job done! This is what the marketing activities truly mean. It's pity that many people heard these words and few really did it.

Thanks James for your comment and the feedback. I agree - many people have completely wrong expectations about marketing and particularly Internet Marketing. There's no miracle happening. Any marketing activity (online and offline) simply aims at showing that you exist and highlighting what makes you different from the competition.

In offline marketing (real life networking, telephone marketing...) it's about making a great impression or example so that if the person you met needs a translator 6 months later, you immediately pop into their mind.

In online marketing, it's about:
1/ boosting your Google ranking to ensure as much as possible that when a potential client searches for certain keywords, you appear in the top results
2/ making a great impression within an online community and among people (in a group, a forum, etc.) so that when they need a translator 6 months later. you immediately pop into their mind - just like in-person networking, only online allow you to have a bigger audience and reach to people you would not have met otherwise (due for example to geographical distance).

I keep repeating that to translators wondering why their LinkedIn profile hasn't brought them tons and tons of clients calling them for 60,000 words jobs.

Cheers
