I’ve just heard on BBC Radio 4 that bank charges will still be charged for paying in cheques from another country within the Euro-zone. So if you receive a cheque from, say, Holland, to pay into your account in France, you will still have to pay for the privilege. The reason is that there is no central European cheque clearing system. The advice given was to accept electronic payment by credit card.

Good, eh?
