I found a truly valuable document on the Web today. Since we have recently been debating the issue of rates at length in this forum, I thought some of you may be interested in it as well.

I have only speed-read two of the articles, and find that although there isn't really anything new in it, the collection of articles certainly is an eye-opener. I hope you will find this useful. We may feel powerless to change the current state of the industry, but meanwhile, we have all the power to change our individual business processes.

Link works for me, looks a bit shady though, as they ask fpr your mail address. You get to the download though, even if you type in a bogus address.

I tried to find one, but even if I manage well with my computer, I am not as skilful in browsing behind the scenes on the Web as I would like to be, so I gave up after two minutes.

I also wanted to add that even though the original link I posted does ask for an e-mail addy, it is nothing shady. They are just gathering into for marketing purposes - after all, the site sells marketing services, and I am sure they like to track who reads what on their site. But don't worry, they are not the kind of people who send you nagging e-mail. I don't mind: I signed up for their newsletter anyway. That is why I am aware of this special report.

Edit: I just wanted to add that the second article made me realize something. Giving rebates and freebies, accepting to be paid less than our normal rate, etc., are largely perceived as though you were not confident of the value of the services you sell. It is no wonder then that clients seem to have trouble appreciating the work we do. I think that being a tough negotiator and saying no once in a while actually help nurture the image of the profession.
There are many more noteworthy notions in the articles, so I won't comment on them too much here. Read them!
