Hello, When you have a Paypal account and want to withdraw your money to your bank account, you must enroll in the expanded use program. I have the same experience. Right now I have a large sum on my account, and I have tried several times to withdraw it but always failed. I can't find that 4-digit number either. And I can't figure out how they want me to write the bank account number. I always get the reply that they haven't got the right information, and then they charge me for the attemt to transfer the money. I have tried to reach them by email, but I didn't get any answer. There is a telephone number, but it seems to be a US number, so it would be far too expensive to call them from Europe. This reply is probably not of much help to you, but at least you know you are not alone with this frustrating experience! ▲ Collapse
I had the same problem some months ago | Feb 25, 2004 |
I am allowed to withdraw max. 498 Euro/monthly. Some months ago I received a bigger amoount and I could not manage to transfer it to my account (Paypal Assistance was not helpful at all!!). After a month I divided the amount (498 Euro in january and the rest in february): It worked but I had to pay bank taxes twice!

Salut Emilie, They charge 1.95 dollar and a 4-digit code appears on your credit card statement, which you must then enter online to complete the process. The transfer does appear on my bank statement but... without any code! I can't give you any pointer on how to solve it, simply because I went through the process without any problems whatsoever. What strikes me in your posting is a discrepancy between statements - you say that your bank statement does not contain the 4-figure code - well, it wouldn't because it's shown on your credit card statement. It would be unusual (but of course, not impossible) to have the two in one and the same statement. Are you sure you looked in the right place? Best regards, Ralf

It might not be any help, but in case it is, the following (real numbers replaced) appeared on my credit card statement, and the "extended use number" turned out to be the four numbers in 'particulars', following 2 '#' signs, and coming before the amount debited in USDollars. I guess other statements might do it differently though (or for all I know, really have no reference). 10 Feb [reference]"ABCDEFG" [particulars] PAYPAL "1234" *MEMBER "567-8910-3456" CA 1.07 "##4567" 1.95 USD @ 1.8224 can your account count as a paypal Europe account now (in which case the customer service number would be in the Irish republic - I don't know if that would be any cheaper for you. If the account would normally be expected to come under paypal Europe, but is still US, it might be because the primary e-mail address is ".com" rather than a national designation. In the situation just mentioned, changing the primary e-mail address changed the account to a paypal europe one, in my case (for what that is worth). Sorry if these suggestions don't help In fairness, if the "credit card" fee was paid with a debit card from a bank account then you would expect the amount (and code) to appear on a bank statement. I'd call a debit card a debit card, but paypal does seem to call debit cards and credit cards alike "credit cards" in all their literature - I'm undecided whether that is peculiar to them or just what Americans call plastic cards. Hoping you manage to sort the problems out, one way or another.... Giuli~ English Russian Georgian

It would be unusual (but of course, not impossible) to have the two in one and the same statement. Are you sure you looked in the right place? Actually, I realise my question wasn't clear... The thing is I don't think we have "Credit Card statements" here in France (or do we?). All I have is a bank account statement issued by my bank every month and listing all movements/operations on my account that month (credit card, cheques, ATM withdrawals, transfers, etc). On this one, the 1.95 dollar debit was stated but there was absolutely no 4-digit number whatsoever next to, below, above, over, around, across or anywhere I could reasonably expect it to be! I also asked my bank if they had more information somewhere that did not appear on my statement, but they said they didn't. Problem still unsolved yet... but THANKS a lot to all of you for your answers! Kind regards, Emilie
