I've had an enquiry from a potential customer about my prices. They want to know my prices per word, per line and per "KB". Does this mean kilobytes or something totally different. If it is kilobytes how do I convert my word/ line price into it???

Why not phone them and ask Nov 3, 2004

.... or you could drop them a line to ask what it means.

Best,

Alison

this could mean strokes Nov 3, 2004

Hi!
per character price comprising a line at 55 Strokes. A few outsources I know count in Keyboard strokes. Watchout this also means they would not pay for the repeats or fuzzy matches. You could alternatively dictate your translation to a word processor, then no strokes at all. That is but yet another issue.
Rgds,

Stupid me! Nov 3, 2004

I've just realised the question was originally written in German and not English - Preis pro KB.

Perhaps that sheds a different light on things!

Sorry for the mistake.

I agree with Alison Nov 3, 2004

You should ask them to clarify, just to be certain.

I have seen prices quoted on kilobytes for WAP applications, ie, translating text content for cell phones such as SMS, etc., but this is certainly rare and very field specific, since the conversion between KB and "normal" characters depends on the codification used.

FYI, if it is a simple ASCII text it means that one byte is one character (open up your note pad, write "1 2 3" and then look at the file size - 5 bytes, 123 + 2 spaces).

In any case, let us know what they say!

That didn´t cross my mind Nov 3, 2004

I agree with Rosanna, there is also a thing like that: lately there were similar enquiries. Would be certainly interesting if you get back and inform us.
