I've just got TRADOS and some clients ask for translation rates in Trados.
Would someone please explain the translation rates system in Trados? I understand that they're connected with repeateng of words in the text - but how to determine the rates? I'm not a newbie in translation business, but haven't used CAT tools before.
Thanx.

CAT and translation rates? Dec 22, 2004

Ana,

Before you make any changes to your rates, first take time to become familiar with the product.

When you're familiar with it, decide how much time it's saving you.

Then, decide how much, if any, of this time saving you wish to pass on to your customer in the form of a discount.

Don't allow yourself to be put under pressure by your customers. You don't got to your dentist or auto repair shop, ask them what new equipment they have, and then ask them what discount they're going to give you for using it.

You analyse the file(s) in Workbench Dec 22, 2004

First load the TM, if you've got one. Then you go to Tools > analyse and select the files you have to translate. Finally Trados will show you its result for every single file and for the whole bunch.
From the table you see, how many repetitions there are and if there are 100 % matches with the TM.
After that you can decide, if you want to give any discount on matches and repetitions and fuzzy matches (less than 100 % similiar).
When you got so far you will be a bit wiser already. Good luck!
