Hi there,

I sometimes do some small translation jobs. I'm based in Switzerland and I'm just wondering if it's necessary to get a VAT number or if there's an easier way to bill clients for such infrequent jobs. Maybe one of you has an answer or a link to provide me with...

Thanks a lot.

Laurent

Rules re VAT registration depend on the country Feb 16, 2005

Since each country has its own rules for VAT registration, my advice would be to contact your national Tax office or check their website.

In Switzerland VAT taxation starts with a taxable turnover of CHF 75,000 and/or taxable services imported exceeding CHF 10,000.

(From my "Wegleitung 2001 zur Mehrwertsteuer")

This clearly is NOT a professional advice, just in case a lawyer might look for a victim. ;o)
