Sometimes circumstances show that it would be unwise to grant credit to a client (or agency). What would be the best way to get your money up front in these cases?

  • There must be a sure and fast way to determine whether you've really got the money (this rules out cheques).
  • The transfer should not entail risk (this rules out bank notes sent by snail mail).
  • The transfer should be fast (since translation business usually is urgent).
  • Ideally, the transfer should not be overly expensive.
  • The method should work across nations (for instance, from Great Britain or from Canada to Germany).

Any ideas?

Paypal, Bibit or Moneybookers (or even Western Union) seem to comply with all your requisites. Check them out, hope it helps!

Fax of bank statement Sep 30, 2005

In cases where the above mentioned solutions won't work, I ask the client to fax me the bank statement after they made advance payment by normal bank transfer.
