I have just started using Trados, and would like to know what discount over the normal rate is generally applied to repetitions, fuzzy matches, etc.

Thanks a lot!

Has already been discussed a few times May 8, 2006

Hi Mariana,

The Trados rates and discounts for fuzzys have been discussed quite a lot in the forums, just search in the forums for Trados rates.

Here's one for starters:

Good luck

Discounts? Not necessarily. May 8, 2006

Hello Mariana,

We never offer any discounts from our initiative, and prefer to wait until clients ask for this. There is no need whatever to offer a lower price if your clients haven't asked. And if it's inevitable, don't offer too generous discounts.

You can compare your investment in Trados with a plumber (or any other skilled manual worker) who has bought new machines in order to work faster. Does he/she offer a lower hourly rate? You have bought a new software, need some time to understand the program (which means that you cannot earn any money when studying your new software).

Erik

TOPIC STARTER
THANK YOU May 8, 2006

I was asked if I made "repetition discounts", hence my question. My first impulse would be to answer NO, because as professionals we are entitled to our full rates, even if we use some tool to help us. But I suspect that would result in my not getting the translation job... so I will have to think it over! And now I have some better idea, with this and previous posts I was suggested to check. Thanks to all for your replies!
