Any advice on how to find (vet) a good accountant who knows the translating business and international business issues? I have an accountant who understands international issues, but I'm not sure he is best for dealing with translator issues (possible deductions, financial planning, etc).

One who deals with small/home businesses Apr 15, 2007

After one not-so-good one, I found an accountant who deals a lot with small businesses and can do both my personal and business taxes. I am more than happy to pay for his office's services.

I personally prefer someone who operates an office with more than just himself/herself. The first one I had worked independently and when he got too much work just flaked on me rather than referring me to someone else. The one I have now runs a regular office with several junior accountants and another senior accountant to share the load.

I used this site to find mine:
http://www.bookkeepinghelp.com/
After locating a few in my area who fit the profile I wanted, I wrote them all e-mails explaining my situation, and then chose the one who sent me back a prompt response with the best services/quote. Some didn't write back, so they were obviously out of the picture right away!

Good luck with the search!
