Has anyone got any information on that particular outsourcer: www.proz.com/job?id=16446?
I find it odd that they would want the test back so fast. Could be fishy (eg, sending out one page each to 20 translators, thus getting a 20-page document translated for free).

I agree with you. The guy contacted me and sent me some email with an attachment that I couldn\'t open. I called him long distance and he has not responded.
Sounds just like what you said: some guy who wants to get his translation done for free. No one sending tests asks for them to be returned asap.

I agree that it looks potentially suspicious, but maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise.
One simple way to check, might be for anyone who receives the test translation to just post the first couple of lines of the text in this particular forum. It should soon become apparent if this is a scam or a genuine translation request.

My belief is that if you sit in a market place to sell your wares - and that too on a window that promotes cut throat competition - almost falling over each other-
you are bound to be taken for a ride.
One should know where you are selling or raher exposing your wares.

Yes, it certainly looks potentially suspicious. But why don\'t we give the job poster the benefit of the doubt until we know more. And there\'s a relatively simple way that we can check this out anyway - when any translator receives the sample text for this job, they can just post the first couple of lines to this forum. It will soon be apparent whether this is a scam or not.
Is anybody willing to do this??

Google search with “Shirean Moini ACC International”. If you want to check it out, give them a call. Appears to be based in US, but there is a company (branch?) of the same name in the UK. In any event, Shirean Moini would certainly appear to be in the US…

Well, the phone number checks out although I got just an answering machine. Strange, perhpas, because I think it\'s mid-morning that side of the Atlantic. The first thing I would be curious about is the fields of specialisation they are looking for.

As soon as I read the posting I knew something was up.
As Abacustrans said, if they want a test for future projects, there is no reason that they should \"need\" it done today.
Unfortunately, as of this morning there are already 21 bids. I\'m afraid at least a few of our Proz have fallen victim despite the warnings.
