Hi,

does anyone have any idea, how much do the big European institutions (Central Bank, EU etc.) pay their freelance translators? Do they have a wage structure for freelancers or do you yourself have to name your price?

Thanks in advance

There is no such a term as "freelance salary". Either you participate in an open competition (and win) and become a full time employee, or you participate in tenders for translation services providers and name your price. Although usually the tenders are open for agencies and sole traders alike, in practice it is almost impossible to win if you are just a freelancer.

Freelancers also have good chances with some institutions!!!! Jun 26, 2007

I have to say that this is not always the case for all institutions.

It is true that big institutions tend to tender big multilingual volumes of work to agancies but comparatively smaller institutions (like the ECB) often offer contracts freelancers (as you can see from their webpages).

Regarding the original question, if the rate is not mentioned in the call for tenders, you might want to contact them directly and ask them if you have to provide a rate.
