What is the IRS form used when contracting with foreign (non US based) translators?
i.e. What are the equivalents of a W-9 and 1099 forms for foreign contractors?

W-8BEN Aug 9, 2007

A W-8BEN form establishs that the payee is a non-US person under tax law and is exempt from withholdings. Save this in your file in case the IRS asks questions. A 1099 is probably not needed since nothing is withheld. You of course still get to deduct the payment on your 1040 Schedule as a business expense. I am not an accountant so usual disclaimers apply.

I have no idea what the answer is, but I would advise you to check IRS sites and/or a competent US tax advisor, which Yonmei is not.
