Hi guys, I am pretty knowledgeable about in-house salaries, but could anyone let me know how much a good freelancer earns for the French to English and Spanish to English language pair, taking into account vacation periods/ breaks (gross annual earnings)? Thanks much!

I think the American Translators Association has a publication for sale that provides statistics on salaries and wages for translators, broken out by job type and language pair. You can probably find ordering information at atanet.org. Good luck!
how much to earn? | Sep 8, 2007 |
hello sir, though i have not exact idea about earnings of a freelanc translater. but the language pair you mention have much potential all depends upon your willingness to do hard work and your speciality in the field. you surely earn with the proz.com because it s largest visiting site for outsourcers to post their jobs.

What do you mean by freelancer. Freelance translator, interpreter, trainer, I.T.-programmer?
Only one thing is sure... | Sep 8, 2007 |
it fluctuates all the time. My first year went great, my second my income was half, then it went up again. Basically, that's the risk you take being a freelancer and plus of course not standing a chance in hell of getting a mortgage!!!!;-) Good luck and enjoy your freedom...which in my opinion is priceless!

Hi islander, Essentially, the only person who is really able to answer this question is - you. Try 'playing around' with the Rate Calculator; although this tool is admittedly simplistic, it illustrates the impact of key factors on your target (or actual) income. Best regards, Ralf
Thanks everyone! | Sep 8, 2007 |
I guess going 100% freelance just seems a little like gambling! Maybe I am just too conservative. But the intellectual/ schedule freedom of it is alluring!! I guess no-one can determine what you earn except you! What do you think?
