So, it seems that World Lingua [world.lingua@execs.com]

has a rush job of 4000 words German to English involving business. And, what is more, they can only [sic] pay 0.04 USD/word! My oh my! And they need it back by 1Jan [sic] in the afternoon US time!

Well, hell! Katie, bar the door!

Hell, at that rate and with that deadline I would rather flip burgers for a day!

Will this nonsense ever end?

Rich

I Bid ! (with price and comment to follow) Dec 31, 2001

You\'re making yourself ridiculous in this community by posting this job, AT THIS PRICE AND AT THIS TIME.

IT REQUIRES A 100% RUSH SURCHARCHE AND A 100% HOLIDAY SURCHARGE

I couldn\'t believe it ! It\'s outrageous and insulting. I\'ve decided to also \"bid\" and let them have a piece of my mind.I\'m already in a foul mood anyway (

Will they find someone? Dec 31, 2001

After reading Mats\' contribution, I now know that four of the six bids are non-starters. I wonder who the other two were (what a shame bids are no longer public!).

While striving to maintain some measure of charity to restrain myself from clarity, what comes to mind (a rarity) is, \"throw the dog a bone!\"

Think about the bids they get. Jan 2, 2002

Many of the bids are probably not bids at all but messages shouting them down!

You are all certainly right Jan 6, 2002

- It is truly ridiculous. I have encountered a similar situation (rush complicated job, the price unbelievably low). I still do believe, that public bids do not do any good to anyone; in fact, they were making the situation quite unbearable and allowed those \"posters\" to drive the prices down shamelessly. Now, maybe they will get the taste of what it\'s like when people flat refuse to work with them and call them stupid for refusing to pay for what they want.

Most likely they will still find someone, no doubt someone really desperate... and they will, hopefully, find themselves sitting in a puddle as the Russians say (smile)

They may not even be looking for a translator... Mar 2, 2002

they may be trying to lower rates. Why don\'t me talk about the ones that pay fair prices? If we show lower prices, that is what we will get.

It\'s an easy trick. Let\'s be smarter than that.
