Dear Friends,

Deepawali is a festival of light celebrated widely in the Indian Sub-Continent especially by hindus. On this day, Lord Ram returned back to Ayodhya after killing Ravana, the symbol of adharma.
On this Goddess of wealth Laxmi and Lord of wisdom- Ganesh is worshipped. That's why it is celebrated as Laxmi Pooja also.

Enjoy this Hindi Deepawali wishing poetry especially composed for my proz friends-

Amaawas ki andheri raat me

Lakshmi ki umeed me

kai aankhen jagti hain

kahiN ghantiyan bajti hain

ummeed ye hoti hai

ki lakshmi aayegi

mere ghar bhi

tere ghar bhi

haan! zaroor aayegi!

Thanks for these wishes. Cherish this day and all the best to your family.
PS:Would you mind translating your poem into English, just to give all us the chance to appreciate it as well, not knowing Hindi:)))

Diwali vs. Deepawali? Nov 15, 2004

Hi PRAKAASH,

Thanks for your post. My Indian friends call the celebration Diwali, but I'm assuming it's the same thing? Could you elaborate on the 2 different names? Is it a regional difference? Is "Diwali" a shortened form?

Michele

HAPPY DEEPAWALI- Translated version of Hindi poem Nov 16, 2004

Dear Michele & Italia,
Deepawali and Diwali both conveys same meaning. One may say that Diwali is short-form of Deepawali.

Composing a poem is an easy task and translating the same is much difficult for me. Still, I'll try my best for my friends-

In a Black night of Deepawali,
Hoping the goddess of wealth's arrival,
Lots of people stay away from their beds to welcome her,
Some people keep on worshipping Laxmi in the late hours,
Just in a hope,
That goddess of wealth Laxmi'll come.
She'll come to my home perhaps,
and your home as well!
I'm sure, she'll come and bless us!

That's the instant translation after reading about a friend's curiousity. Hope it satisfies and Goddess of wealth shower her blessings on all of us!
